Marble Painting Snowman
We did this project across several days.
1. Tear art to make a pine tree
2. Use white paint and your finger to paint 3 balls for your snowman body (big, medium, small)
3. Add the snowman details using a black and orange marker
4. Write a sentence about your snowman, cut and glue it onto your paper
5. Marble paint snow all over your paper, dry and display!
This project started by working together to fill in our rhyming house of the week which was -it. We brainstorm and share words that are in the -it family and then sound each word out, taking turns writing them on sticky notes in the house. Once our house was filled, we were ready for our rhyming snowman project. The kids had the option of choosing words from our house or coming up with new words, but they had to write rhyming words on each snowman ball. These turned out so cute!
If I Lived in a Snow Globe
We read the story "Snowmen at Night" about all of the silly, fun things that they do at night in the snow. Then we discussed what we would want to do if we were in a winter wonderland. I showed them YouTube videos of a wintery snow globe and the kids were amazed. I even had a real one to show them. Then the kids drew something in their snow globe that they would want to do and then wrote what they would want to do if they were in a snow globe. There were some pretty cute answers.
And of course we had to have an independent writing competition writing anything about a snowman. Then they could decorate the snowman template and add any details. I was impressed with their sentences. The only word I gave them was "snowman". They had to be able to compose their sentence themselves.
