Johnny Appleseed Day

We spent two weeks learning all about apples focusing on:
1. The parts of an apple
2. The life cycle of an apple tree
3. Johnny Appleseed
4. Resources made from apples
5. The letter Aa

Directed Drawings of Johnny Appleseed outlined with black marker

We used tear art to make different colors of apples

I love the GLAD way of learning. Here are some posters I made as a taught. I had the posters lightly traced in pencil and as I talked, I would use marker to trace over my words and drawings over the span of 2 weeks.

We did a giant apple taste test. We tried red, yellow, and green apples and then graphed our favorite one. We also tried other apple goodies: dried apples, baked apples, apple juice, applesauce, apple cider, and apple pie.

Of course I had to show the kids the cool way to cut an apple so there is a star in the middle. The kids were amazed and acted like I was some famous magician lol

We read and illustrated a book I made. Each page has the same sentence frame, but a different color word "I see the _____ apple."

We read a book called "Seal's Silly Sandwich" and found all of the A words. The kids took turns circling them on the board.

Creating our A poster. The kids come up with the word, help each other spell it and write it. Then we use highlighter tape to find and count all of the As.
