Polar Express Day

Every year I have a Polar Express Party the second to last day before Christmas vacation. We spend the week reading the book and doing various activities related to the book. We had gingerbread cookies, hot chocolate (most delicious with 2% milk, peppermint marshmallows, and Redi Whip on top, with a candy cane), sleigh bell necklaces, tickets, and pajamas! All the kids showed up in pajamas with blankets and pillows. I had some older student helpers come in to help. They passed out tickets, hole punched tickets to give each "passenger" a sleigh bell necklace. I also told the kids that their ticket was good for  free hot chocolate and cookies! It was so much fun. After we got all settled in, we laid around and watched, The Polar Express.
One of my favorite activities was having them pretend that the Polar Express train just showed up in their front yard and said it would take them anywhere, so where would you go??
