Dr. Seuss Day/Read Across America

Here is a peak into the themed activities we did in my classroom today that connect with Dr. Seuss books. What a fun day to celebrate reading!

We made rhyming -at hats for "The Cat in the Hat".

We made puppets for "Horton Hears a Who".

We watercolor painted fish bowls for "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish".
And then later we made an art project for the story. Great fine motor practice for the kiddos with tracing and cutting.

We made Oobleck for "Bartholomew and the Oobleck".

We balanced apples on our head for "Ten Apples on Top".

We played some balloon games for "Hop on Pop". I wrote a number on each balloon. For the first game they all had to grab a balloon and had 3 minutes to get themselves in numerical order. I realized 3 minutes was way too long because they finished with time to spare! Then I let them Pop their balloon, but they had to pop them in numerical order and by hopping on it! It was a little chaotic, but they loved it.

And then after reading "The Sneeches" we wrote about what makes each one of us special and important.

We also played the foot race from "The Foot Book". Two kids raced at a time. The challenge was they had to get from start to the finish line by only stepping on the feet! They couldn't touch the carpet!

And last, here is my DIY Cat in the Hat costume that I love to wear!
