Camping in the Classroom

Since there are only 9 days of school left I decided that this week would be "camping in the classroom" week. First, I have to say how badly I wanted a tent!!! But I didn't have one so I guess there is always next year! Anyway, my most favorite thing to do was... MAKE SMORES! I was surprised to see many of my kids had never made it or tried a SMORE. It was so much fun. I bought my SMORE maker from Zulily and it works amazing. It's flameless which makes it a lot safer for the classroom and kids.

They were so delicious that my kids kept suggesting we sell SMORES as a fundraiser, because we'd be rich.

We also did some fun centers that were camping themed. We started with "camping under the stars". I built a fort with dark blue butcher paper to black out a section of the room. I crawled under it to hang up some stars with sight words on them. I gave the kids a flashlight and a sight word star template and their job was to lay around under the stars and find them. Omg they loved this activity and I was shocked to see the fort lasted through all six groups.

We also did a marshmallow math challenge. They used marshmallows to complete the make ten math sentence. If they completed the challenge they were rewarded with some marshmallows to eat!

We also practiced teen numbers by building Smores.

Those were just a few of my favorite activities from my theme this week. I highly recommend it since it was loads of fun for the second to last week of school!
