Making Reading Fun

I love teaching my kiddos how to read, because there are endless ways to make it fun and meaningful. Here are some things we have done the past 19 days of school!

Reading using "reading fingers" and "phones". They love using the fingers to help them track and they love using the phones, because they are fun and makes it super easy to hear themselves read.

Pocket chart point and read using the word of the week and pictures that start with the letter of the week.

Reading with buddies. The kids love "reading" to a stuffed buddy. We learned that we can read pictures to retell a story in order to read it to our buddy.

Motivation to read. We practiced reading emergent readers and highlighted the word of the week to help us remember words. I told the kids that during free choice time they had the choice to read their story to me. Once they have read their story 3 times, they earn a sticker! And sometimes a Gummi Bear :) I was overwhelmed by my reading line!
