Checking out our lips with mirrors. We used the mirrors to see what our lips look like when we say the letter sound to help us remember how to form our mouths.
Handwriting Without Tears. The kids love using the pieces to try and form the letter. It was interesting to see which kids truly need this activity. This activity definitely helps the low bunnies. They also love the chalkboard writing component of the program. Write it and sponge it!
Decorating M with Markers. They traced the sentences, "M is for markers" and then got to color it.
Play-Doh M's. We talk about how to form the letter. Then we make it. We trace it with our finger. And then use our phone to say the letter and sound three times before hanging up.
Mm Poster. We listened to Mimi Mouse. Read sentences using flashcards and pictures of M words. And then we brainstormed M words to add to our Mud Poster. Right now I write the words and the kids draw the pictures (eventually I will have the kids come up and write the words as we help each other sound the word out). Then we use highlighter tape (one of my favorite inventions ever!) to find all of the Ms. Last, we read the words again and count all of the Ms.
Of course we had to have some non-academic fun which was social playing with fake money using my cash registers and plastic food.
Exploring with Magnets.
Sound Sharing. The kids can bring in an object to share at the end of the day that starts with the letter of the week. They come up to the front of the room and share 2 complete sentences about their object. The rest of the class has the opportunity to ask 2 questions about it. The kids love sharing.
