I love, love, love Christmas time in the classroom! I wanted to share some of my kids' hard work that I have displayed this month.
First, is our Christmas Tree Lane. This was the easiest activity. We just decorated individual trees with yarn and Fruit Loops and then I hung up lights around them. The pictures just don't do it justice.
Next, we had a Grinch Day! We read the book a little bit each day and would have great discussions on Grinch's character and the story elements. Then we watched the movie and wrote about what we would do to make the grinch grin.
We've been learning about patterns and so we made a candy cane pattern. I encouraged the kiddos to challenge themselves and make something other than an AB pattern, but they all went with AB. Looks good though!
We focus on a rhyming family for 2 weeks. This project just so happened to focus on "-it" week. We made Christmas trees with ornaments that all rhyme.
We read the book, "Santa's Stuck", a cute story about Santa eating too many sweets while delivering presents and ends up getting stuck in a chimney. Many friends must help get him out! The kids wrote about how they would help Santa if he was stuck in a chimney.

We also have letters to Santa displayed on our writing wall.

I bought the kids books from Scholatic and put them under our classroom tree. It pretty much tortures the kids daily lol but I said they can't open them until Polar Express Day. I bought each of them, "The Biggest Snowman Ever".
We also have a classroom Elf named, Zippy. That little red mailbox under our tree has a daily note inside with two candy canes. Everyday Zippy leaves a note congratulating two kids with candy canes that have made Santa's nice list. He kids freak out!! Haha and I make sure that every kid makes the nice list before Christmas break comes.
The kids are so curious about touching our elf so my sister came up with a great idea! Zippy left us a pair of special gloves which allow her to be gently touched by the kids. They LOVE THIS! Here's one of my friends enjoying the special gloves with Zippy and her reindeer, Olive, hanging out in one of our book boxes.
