Polar Express Day

The last day before winter break I always do a Polar Express Day! Everyday this week leading up to the actual day, I read a couple pages in the book. We'd have great discussions of the story elements and I'd always bookmark it at a good cliffhanger spot. Monday we wrote about what happened in the beginning,

Tuesday the middle, Wednesday the end. Here's our beginning/middle/end trains displayed in my classroom window:

On Friday, we wore our Jammies, brought blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals. I gave the kids a bell necklace and a golden ticket. I would hole punch their ticket before they could receive their bell, hot chocolate, and popcorn. They also opened their presents from me. I always choose a book to give. This year it was, "The Biggest Snowman Ever". And then we watched the movie.

I told them if they could hear the bell jingle, that meant they believe in Santa. It was the cutest thing ever. The rest of the day I heard bells jingling constantly and kids telling other kids, "look I can hear it! I believe!"

And I of course dressed up as Mrs. Claus.
