Caterpillars and Butterflies...AND Bees!

Caterpillar/Butterfly week is officially here! And to kick it off...we welcomed our new lil friends from Insect Lore. So far the kids loooooove observing the caterpillars through magnifying glasses on their spare time throughout the day.

They got super excited when our caterpillars turned into Chrysalises also known as the pupa stage.

Watching our butterflies emerge! Can't believe we caught it in action!

We read the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and also watched the movie. Afterwards, we completed a directed drawing and then wrote an informational sentence about caterpillars or butterflies. They did such a great job!

We are also working on being authors and illustrators and making our own Very Hungry Caterpillar book for Open House next week! They are having so much fun with these!

We also made a butterfly by illustrating and labeling the life cycle inside the wings including: eggs, larva, pupa, and adult.

We also made coffee filter butterflies. The kids used markers to color their coffee filter, sprayed it with water, laid it out to dry, and then voile!

Everyday we added new facts to our informational poster!

Ready for Open House!

Bittersweet moment when we had to let our butterflies go!

Additionally, we've also been learning about some other insects; such as, bees! We discussed some informational facts about bees and wrote sentences about them. And of course did a fun marble painting project to make bees.
