Turkeys!

Okay where in the world has November gone?? I barely got through all of the November goodies I like to teach and do! But here are some fun things we did so far this month...a lot about turkeys!

By far one of my favorite November activities is reading "Turkey Trouble". And then the kids practicing retelling the story and then decide what kind of food they would serve the farmer to eat in order to distract him from eating the turkey. So adorable.

To my surprise, many of the kids didn't know what "being thankful" meant so we learned all about it and what we are thankful for. It was fun to see how their thankful lists changed from beginning to end. I forgot to take a picture of the final product. But they wrote 6 thankful things on 6 feathers and glued them around their turkey body.

They didn't believe me when I told them they would be able to magically see the color word in each life in the mirror! They loved this activity. I made the color words inside the leaves backwards so that when the kids used the mirrors they would be able to correctly read the color word in the mirror and color the leaf the correct color.

While they were coloring their leaves, I painted each child's hand like a turkey onto a sweet lil turkey poem for their year end memory books.

They seem to enjoy color by numbers! So I made a color by number turkey for them which also helps them practice recognizing numbers to 6 and counting.

I hung up 26 turkeys all over the room and gave the kids clipboards and crayons. They had to go on a turkey hunt to find each turkey. When they found a turkey, they could color that turkey letter feather off on their paper. I thought this might be a little to chaotic for my rambunctious class, but they looooooved it.

My class is working on being good sports both winners and losers. So usually once or twice a month we do a coloring contest. This week we did a turkey coloring contest. I was impressed!!! Their coloring sure is improving and so is their good sportsmanship.
