Christmas and Winter in K

Why oh why must my favorite month go by so fast! There is never enough time to do all of the fun things that I love to do in the month of December. But here are some fun things we have managed to squeeze in this month so far :)

Rhyming Trees
We've been focusing on a new rhyming family each week. This week it was the AP family. We brainstormed a list of -ap words to make rhyming trees.

Candy cane Patterns
As you can see some kids struggled with their patterning lol but the idea was to practice making a red and white AB pattern. Simple, but they loved it and didn't realize they were working on a math skill.

Grinch Day
I always like to have a day dedicated to the Grinch for no other reason other than I like the book lol. Monday we read the story. Tuesday we did a directed drawing. Wednesday we wrote about what we would do to make the Grinch grin. Thursday we completed the Grinch project. Friday we all wore green, ate green cookies, and watched the cartoon version of the movie. Super fun!

 Directed Drawing
I can't say it enough about how much I love directed drawings as well as the kids. I told them we were going to draw the Grinch and they looked at me like I was crazy. Yet, nearly all of their drawings looked phenomenal!

 The Snowman
My class loves getting together with the Transitional Kindergarten class as well as me! Because it's my teacher bestie's class! And we always have so much fun getting our classes together. This week we got our classes together to watch The Snowman. I looooove The Snowman because it doesn't have any words! Just music. Kids are always fascinated and amazingly quiet during this movie. We had 47 kids and not a peep was heard. Afterwards, I found a template of the actual snowman from the story and the kids got to decorate their very own snowman.

Sneezy the Snowman
Who doesn't love Sneezy?! He just wants to have fun and indulge in the finer things lol but his choices keep making him melt. Again, we got together with our TK friends to listen to the story and then complete the art project of a melted Sneezy!

Christmas Tree Lane
Christmas Tree Lane has been up in my room since I started teaching! I got the amazing idea from my amazing master teacher back in my student teaching days. The kids use yarn, fruit loops, sparkly goodies to decorate a Christmas Tree. Then I hang them up on the wall around a road accompanied with some lights and viola! Beautiful Christmas cheer for the month.

Writing Challenge
We are always having writing challenges in my classroom. The kids love it and it helps improve their writing and their motivation to write. I gave them the ornament template and the only word I would spell for them was ornament. Their instructions were they could write about anything, but they had to do it independently and if they could successfully read it when they were done, then they received a smelly sticker.

 Measuring Presents and Counting
We had been learning about height, length, width, weight, volume and all that jazz. So to practice width and length, the kids used cubes to measure and count how long each present was. I was worried they would get off task and just want to play with the cubes, I was wrong. They loved this activity! Great way to them counting and writing numbers.

 Letters to Santa
It's like rule number one you have to have kindergarteners write letters to Santa! The things they ask for is just so precious and the fact that they believe is even more adorable.

Only 5 more days until Christmas vacation! This week is all about The Polar Express! So more fun shenanigans coming soon.
