Dr. Seuss Day!
I have a huge collection of Dr. Seuss books so I printed out the cover art of each book I have and we made it a goal to read each book and check it off the list. The kids loved it. After we read specific books, I had some activities to go along with some books.Sneeches - I attempted to draw a giant Sneech! And gave the kids their own star belly star and had them write what makes them special and unique. One at a time they came up to the front of the room and shared what makes them special and hung up their star. I love, love, loved hearing the reasons they chose.

You can't read Bartholomew and the Oobleck without making it!! This is ALWAYS a mess, but the kids are always fascinated by the feel and consistency.

After reading, The Cat in the Hat, we did a Directed Drawing. The kids are always so shocked at how amazing their illustrations turn out and frankly, so am I! :)

The kids made -at rhyming hats so that we could all be twins!

I of course had to dress up in my DIY costume!

Then I got home and discovered that I was being showcased on a blog! Ha! This made my day. I felt like a celebrity :)

St. Patrick's Day!
St. Patrick's Day is the day after my birthday. So I am used to making sure there is a lot of hype leading up to catching the leprechaun on my birthday so it's always an extra crazy day of fun. The day started with the kids taking turns sharing their leprechaun traps and explaining how they were going to work. At the end of the day, the kids chose any spot in the room to place their trap.

Kids' little hands are just the sweetest things so I enjoy any excuse to paint them! lol I painted their hands like rainbows to go along with our pot of gold project. They wrote about who is worth more to them than gold and why. Again, it's so sweet to hear who means the world to them and their reason as to why that person is special to them in their eyes.

The kids always seem to have a mini freak out when I don't let them use paintbrushes, scissors, etc. But I told them in our lucky rainbow that they had to finger paint in the rainbow! And write two reasons they think they are lucky :) Year after year these are always one of my most favorite projects, because they just always turn out so bright and beautiful.

Early Easter!
We didn't have much time between St. Patrick's Day and early Easter celebrations so we had to transition fast! We started with reading "The Golden Egg Book". It is about a bunny that finds an egg and tries a variety of ways to try to get it open to find out what's inside. Very cute story. The kids did a crayon resist/water color painting egg project and then wrote a sentence to go along with it about what is hiding inside their egg.

We are working on being good sports including good winners and good losers. My motto "sometimes we win and sometimes we lose, but the important thing is that we tried our very best!" So we had an egg coloring contest. The way we vote is...the get 5 coins and walk around the tables and place their coins on the 5 eggs that they think are deserving of the win! The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners received a few Skittles.

We had an Easter egg hunt outside on the playground. My mom and dad were able to take the day off work and come help with all of our fun activities. They hid about 500 filled eggs!! Each student got to find about 22 eggs each. What a success!

I think when we got back inside I only let them open 3-5 eggs. Then they had to promise to leave the eggs in their basket on the back counter until they took it home!

We also had an Easter egg hunt inside the classroom, a sight word Easter egg hunt. I hung up sight words around the room and made a coloring page to go along with it that listed the words to find in each egg. As they found each word they got to color in that egg.

Easter egg dyeing! Why do I do this to myself? lol I couldn't have done it without my mom and dad. It's always a huge mess, but the kids always love it and the eggs always turn out beautifully. I just always forget to bring hot water!

The Humpty Dumpty Egg Drop!
The rules are simple! Place a raw egg inside a ziploc bag. Then get your creative on and wrap your egg however you want so that it will survive being dropped from the top of a ladder! If your egg survives the fall, winners receive an Easter egg! The kids loooooove this! And I was shocked at the creativity, the participation, and the number of survivors! I think only 2 broke!
