Bat week!

We are on week 2 of our bat unit. The kids have been super into learning about bats. I find it much easier to teach non-fiction, because they are always much more intrigued in the content. We've read countless bat books, Made anchor charts, projects, opinion and informative writing, acted out "5 Little Bats" during math time, and then I showed them the "Echolocation" song which they are now obsessed with! I catch them singing  it as they are walking to lunch, doing their center work, and cleaning up for the day. I love hearing them sing along especially to a song with such big vocabulary words for 5 year olds! And my favorite part of our bat unit was having the opportunity to actually see a real bat! One of my colleagues cat caught it and she let us borrow it to take a closer look. We have been learning about the parts of a bat so this morning overhearing the kids shout with excitement, " I see the thumbs! I see the fingers! Look at the fur!" Made me grin ear to ear. We also had just read Stellaluna so they kids all wanted to name the bat after the book.
