We had some extra time to kill afterwards so we decided to carve our pumpkins! The kids loved gutting them. We made it a contest to see which team could get their pumpkin the cleanest and the fastest. I told them I would collect the seeds and cook them so we could taste the seeds tomorrow.
We've been learning a lot about pumpkins. We started by reading one of the common core exemplar texts.
We created anchor charts as we learned the parts of the outside and inside of a pumpkin and came up with describing words.
Then we did a project where they had to use tear art to create the parts of a pumpkin including: fruit, vine, stem, leaf, and flower. I also took their picture at recess to attach to their project.
We of course then had to write about pumpkins!
And then had some more fun by acting out the poem play "5 Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate". Probably the cutest thing ever. They practiced their lines and then at the end would roll out of their chair to roll away.
