Number of the Week Mini Lesson
Here is a peak into our math lesson for the number of the week (#5). It went so well! I explained to the kids what we were going to do and they were insistent that I dump the entire cube box out on the carpet!! I agreed but only if they all promised to help clean it up! So on to the challenge...The challenge was they had 10 seconds to gather 5 cubes and put them into a pattern. Then I gave them 3 minutes to share with a friend to make sure everyone had a pattern ( this was my favorite part watching them help each other). For the final challenge they had to stand up in groups of 5 and count each cube for one to one correspondence. Walking around I could see who was struggling with the concept and who was mastering it, but since they helped each other that ensured that nobody would stand up to present without 5 cubes in a pattern. They also got one on one help from a classmate. Afterwards, we completed a ten frame worksheet for the #5. Math success!
