Chicka Name Tree
This was a quick, fun project. They wrote their name, counted the letters, and then found the letters to their name and stuck them inside their tree.

Chicka Sand ABC Search
They used shovels to dig for letters! Once they found a letter, they traced it on their paper and then got to color in that square.
Chicka Emergent Reader
We practiced reading "Coconut Tree, Coconut Tree, How Many Do You See?" They would trace the color word, color the trees the correct color, and then read the story by tracking with their "reading fingers"

Letter in My Name Pocket Chart
I let the kids choose a letter and then they took turns coming up and reading the question. A few students at a time came up with their name tag and placed it under the yes or no side. Afterwards, we would review and check to make sure they were all correct. Lastly, we counted each side to see which side had more and which side had less.
Chicka Strip
We colored our chicka trees and added a slit for an alphabet strip. We listened to the story and slid the strip through the tree to match which letter was going up the tree. This activity was fun, but my class overall struggled with it. I think this activity would've went better with first graders or high performing kindergartners in a small group.
Chicka Math
Every student got their own tree and some coconuts (brown circles). I would put a number under 10 up on the document camera and they would each add the correct number of coconuts to their tree. They LOVED this activity!
