Pete the Cat Fun

Who doesn't love Pete the Cat?! The first week of school we read lots of Pete the Cat and started tackling some academic concepts to kick start learning! Here are some snapshots of some fun things that we did this week.

Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes
They got to choose 1 color and one step at a time we created this fun project which ended up being our first project up on the wall. I was nervous to tackle this project with kindergarteners the 2nd week of school as the only adult in the room, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well they listened and waited to complete each step. They turned out great.

Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons
Each student got a laminated blank t-shirt template and a handful of real buttons. I called up one student a time to add the correct number of buttons to Pete's coat while each student completed their own. They LOVED this activity!

We started reading emergent readers. This emergent reader is called, "Pete's Shoes". I busted out our "Reading Fingers" also known as witch fingers for them to use to help them track as they read.
