Dr. Seuss Week!

I love Read Across America/Dr.Seuss week! This week my school had lots of fun contests.

We had a book advertisement poster contest. I sent these home for optional homework and was so impressed with the entries from my kindergarteners! They didn't have to choose a Dr. Seuss book, but many of them did.

We also have a door decorating contest. My classroom theme is "Put Me in the Zoo". We made the story character and then wrote things we can do on felt spots. I loooooved reading the wonderful things the kids wrote about themselves.

This might be my favorite one lol it cracks me up.

And a book poster contest.

We wrote about things that make us special on green stars and attached them to our giant sneetch.

One of my awesome classroom parents made these green eggs and ham treats for my class! So delicious!

We made Horton puppets.

We made Oobleck and wrote about how it felt, how it looked, and how it smelled.

We made rhyming at hats.

Watercolored fish bowls for One Fish,Two  Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

We did a directed drawing of the cat in the hat. Directed drawings might be my new favorite thing and the kids absolutely love it! I hung them all up in the window and never want to take them down.

We also have been keeping track of the Dr. Seuss books we read each day by crossing them off on a book poster I made of all of the book covers. I can't believe I have this many Dr. Seuss books!

I also sent home a United States map and the kids were challenged to read 50 books and color in a state for each book. The kids are so excited to complete this challenge. Here are the prizes they win! A certificate, reading coloring book, coloring stickers, pencil, eraser, and a lollipop. 7 kids have completed it so far!

And I of course had to wear my DIY Cat in the Hat costume!!

Super fun day!
