The first week of school was filled with lots of fun shenanigans! Here are a few random activities I was able to capture in pictures!
They looooved this project. I wrote each students name in white crayon on black paper and cut lots of colored squares. Their job was to outline their names and cut each square in half (to practice very simple cutting skills). They look great!
We also did some cutting practice. Afterwards, I told the kids to recycle the strips, but some insisted on taking them home haha
We played our "ball game" everyday where we sat in a giant circle and rolled the ball to someone until everyone got a turn. Each day their was a different question to answer when you got the ball. It was a Fun get to know you activity.
We also did some fun stuff with Pete the Cat. We managed to complete this project whole class, but it did take forever! A few of the kids cried when I hung them on the wall lol they wanted to take them home :)
We practiced reading sentences together on the pocket chart. These included the color words and the word of the week, I.
We practiced counting by putting buttons on t shirts after we read "Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons"
We also played this fun game I found on TpT trying to find Pete behind a shoe.
Also, everyday after lunch we do about 5 yoga poses. The kids LOVE yoga. I found a deck of cards of poses and I pick one and put it on the document camera. Everyone attempts the pose and we count to see if we can hold it for 10 seconds.
I also busted out the Chromebooks on the 3rd day. I have no idea what I was thinking lol but it worked ok. Each day I taught the kids one game on the board, and then they played it in pairs, while I set up additional computers so that everyone could have one. I'm trying to pick games that teach them computer skills right now. So far we've only played on abcya.com
Storymaker - practiced typing letters and our names
Zoo keyboarding - practiced finding letters and typing them
